- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 2 teaspoons(holiday spices)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 1 batch royal icing for cookies
In a medium-sized bowl beat the sugar and butter till smooth, add the egg and follow with the holiday spices, ginger and vanilla.
Add molasses or honey (something sweet you have on the spot) then the dry ingredients and keep on mixing, after the dough becomes nice and smooth, put it in the fridge for at least an hour to chill.
We used whatever we had handy to roll the dough on the table and we used the cookie form to cut the shapes, put them on a parchment paper and bake at 170 Degrees C for around 10 minutes.
We used green food paint for the glaze. We mixed confectioner sugar with water and added very small amount of the paint which turned out to be very powerful so you should be careful. The other half of the confectioner sugar is without any paint so that it could turn white … which didn’t happen actually hehe.
When you are ready it is time for painting! We didn’t have the proper tools so that’s why everything became a green mess! But it was a lot of fun!
